What About Yo Friends?

Being the go-to friend is overwhelming. It has its pros and cons. I would consider myself the go-to friend since I am normally the person people go to if they need or even want something. A lot of times I ask myself why I do the things I do and it’s simply because I’m the person and friend I’d want to have myself. I am the friend that would give until I have nothing left. I would be there in times of need. I’m the advice giver. The question answerer. The stylist. The planner. The bank. The loaner. Everyone’s everything.

One upside to being this friend is the feeling of reliability and happiness. It makes me happy to support people and contribute to the things that make them happy. It is also an honor for people to think of me as a person they could count on. I pour into everyone around me in some way. Helping people makes me happy but you cannot pour anything once you have an empty cup.

On the other hand, what happens when being the go-to friend starts to show you truths about the people you prioritize or deem important? What happens when friends’ trips or other friends become more important than giving back or keeping their word with you?

Being this friend holds many responsibilities, sometimes too many. It also shows you the people that are really there for you rather than those there for you on occasion. You learn a lot by being a good friend. You learn from how you treat people and how they treat you in return.

Remember, people are always there for you when they need you. Also keep in mind, people will show you who they are. When they do- believe them. How much do you have to be a blessing to others for someone to actually be a blessing to you? Do the things that work for you on your time. You could do what I do a lot more now too- stop telling people yes!

If your network was your net worth, what celebrity would you be?

Love,

Lani J
